The 24 hour patient

Well, we busted Victoria out of the hospital today(after she was discharged, of course.) She was able to have her MRI this afternoon before we left, so we should hear back regarding those results early next week.

V is so happy to be back at the hotel where I scrubbed her down and detangled her hair for two solid hours (not even kidding) and she can’t wait to get a good night’s sleep without having her eyelids pried open and a flashlight shone in them several times a night.

She’s now known as “the 24 hour surgical patient” at Mass General and has awed doctors and nurses at her amazing recovery after such a traumatic surgery. She can’t wait to have her “cat whiskers” removed that are hanging down from the Merocel packing in her nose. Her collar isn’t terribly bothersome, but it’s definitely a pain when washing her hair.

As of now, it’s looking like one of three options will happen:

1.) If they see more tumor on the MRI, Dr. Curry may go in and resect more if there’s a way to reach it.

2.) They may go in and do a spinal fusion if necessary.

3.) They will go ahead and begin proton therapy before doing a fusion to have more precise access in targeting any remaining tumor.

Or, they could all get together and go a completely different route. All we know is that we can’t thank them enough for taking the time to make the BEST decision for Victoria.

We truly cannot say enough great things about Mass General Hospital. We are so fortunate to have been able to bring our child to such a world class facility.

We’re all hoping to get some great rest over the weekend.🤞🏻🤞🏻

Much love,

Paige, Travis, Victoria, and Wren
